Vintage Unsigned Early Myriam Haskell by Frank Hess Multicolor Molded Glass Floral Wreath Brooch

Fabulous unsigned early Myriam Haskell by Frank Hess glass flowers wreath brooch from the early 1940's, possibly late 1930's.

The multicolored pressed glass flowers are hand threaded through the scalloped edge gold tone pierced back plate. Each flower has a glass seed bead in its center. Frank Hess was known for this style and craftmanship.

The flowers have bright colors: yellow, red, light blue, pink, green and blue. The glass flowers are probably Czech. It is finished with a C clasp.

This brooch is in excellent vintage condition.

A stunning very collectible brooch that would be a great addition to any Myriam Haskell collection!

Dimensions: 1 3/4"      All jewelry comes gift packaged in organza bags.

Miriam Haskell set up her business in 1926 and soon afterwards took on Frank Hess as her chief designer. At that time, the company did not sign any of its pieces with a permanent tag, but only a paper one (black and gold). It was only in the late 1940’s that a permanent signature was attached to protect the Haskell name from cheaper competition that imitated her style.

She produced costume jewelry of elegant artistic ability, ornate and beautiful designs using faux pearls, rhinestones, turquoise, shells, Bakelite and coral that were hand wired in brass and copper to create unique designs of flowers, animals and other organic materials.

The first signature was a semicircular plaque (horseshoe) that was attached to the back of the piece. This probably began in 1947/48 but was not put on all pieces. Then in the early 1950''s the tag was changed to a flat oval shape with ''MIRIAM HASKELL'' stamped on to it. The stamping came through to the other side, but indented and, of course, reversed. This tag was usually attached to the back of the piece but was also used as a hangtag.
