Avon was founded in 1886 and at first, they were selling only perfume and cosmetics via a network of women consultants. In 1963, they started a free jewelry gift with purchase. In 1970, after requests from customers, Avon launched its own line of jewelry products. The first collection was called “The Precious Pretenders”. Their well-advertised jewelry was very popular in the US. Jewelry pieces were characterized by brilliant cut stone, fancy filigree appearance, covered with gold leaf, and looked very expensive and exquisite.

Collectors of vintage costume jewelry appreciate products that were released in the 1970s and 1980's. With Avon worked such famous brands as Ungaro, Swarovski, Centennial, Trifari... Also, the most famous jewelry lines include KJL for Avon (1986-1990s), Barrera for Avon (1989-1996). From 1993 to 1997, Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor herself released several lines of jewelry with her name in collaboration with Avon designers.
