Vintage Portuguese Clear Paste Gold & Silver Marcasite Brooch
Fabulous vintage Portuguese clear paste rhinestone, gold and silver marcasite brooch from the 1980's. A round clear rhinestone chaton is set in the center with around an exquisite open silver and marcasite design, with two gold rectangles on each side in the middle of the border.
This brooch has a the Portuguese eagle head mark and 835 at the back. 835 is one of several European silver jewelry markings; it denotes 83.5% silver and 16.5% copper. The second mark has the letters PPA for the jeweler's mark. Portuguese hallmarks usually have the first letter of the town where it was made, so possibly one of the P is for Porto.
It is in excellent vintage condition.
